The facilitators are a great asset to Maria Canals, as they are professional or amateur pianists who enliven the activities of the OFF Competition, such as the pianos on the street, social or educational activities. It is a highly valuable role for the institution.

The Maria Canals Competition Association and the Fundación Occident promote, through the Social Project “It’s my turn to play!”, the practice of piano among children from neighborhoods with a high percentage of social and economic vulnerability.

The selection is made in collaboration with the participating schools in the project. At the beginning of the school year, the MCB places grand pianos in each district (Usera, La Macarena, Ciutat Meridiana, La Verneda, and Otxarkoaga-Txurdinaga). Then, the tutors and music teachers from the schools, together with the teachers from the social project, propose the students who will receive the scholarships.

Beyond the musicality of the candidates, the motivation and involvement of the children, as well as their families, are taken into account to ensure that the experience is as meaningful as possible.
